post 332 ~ goddamn!… while having dinner, i’m watching yet another episode of “dark angel” season 2… this time, the episode is “hello, goodbye”; one of the best episodes of the season… and i find another actress from “battlestar galactica” season 1!!!

  • Kandyse McClure, who plays Anastasia Dualla (petty officer), played a “dark angel” blind woman friend of “joshua”!
  • in my last post, i got her mixed up with Nicki Clyne, who plays Cally (crewman specialist), and played a “dark angel” transgenic x6 youth named “Fixit”… but i fixed the post ;)))
  • so, in addition to Callum Keith Rennie (cylon), Aaron Douglas (chief), Nicki Clyne (crewman), Sam Witwer (pilot), and Grace Park (pilot), that makes SIX actors in “DA” who went on to appear in “BG”…

2/26 edit ~ double DAMN!! couple nights ago, in the episode “she ain’t heavy”, noticed YET ANOTHER “BG” actor:

  • Alessandro Juliani, who plays Lt. Felix Gaeta, played “Druid” since the beginning of “dark angel” season 1!… SEVEN actors!!!

“battlestar galactica: season 1” (2004)		 post 331 ~ okay, so i’m watching another episode of “dark angel” season 2… this episode is “exposure”… and i immediately recognize TWO actors from “battlestar galactica” season 1!!!

  • Callum Keith Rennie, who plays Leoben Conoy (cylon), played a “dark angel” sheriff
  • Aaron Douglas, who plays Galen Tyrol (chief petty officer), played a “dark angel” hotel clerk

and this is on TOP of TWO OTHER “dark angel + battlestar galactica” actors i recognized earlier in season two…

  • Nicki Clyne, who plays Cally (crewman specialist), played a “dark angel” transgenic x6 youth named “Fixit”
  • Sam Witwer, who plays Crashdown (co-pilot), played a “dark angel” evil transgenic named “Marrow”

so that makes FOUR actors in “DA” who went on to appear in “BG”… WAIT– just did some digging… a FIFTH actor!

  • Grace Park, who plays Boomer (pilot), played a “dark angel” X5 breeding partner early in the season…

yet more reason to like “battlestar galactica”… very intriguing ;)))

“Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig” (2005)		 post 330 ~ hey, it’s been a while since my last DVD post, so here it is…

  • battlestar galactica: season 1 ~ no question, FIVE STARS!… best sci-fi series i’ve seen since “dark angel” or “firefly” or “star trek: DS9 or voyager”, and even better (and darker) than those!… the season close was mind-blowing!… and now i gotta buy the season 2.0 which is actually the FIRST HALF of season two… argh ;)
  • friend ~ not bad at all… childhood friendships, adolescent differences, and adult betrayals… FOUR STARS… tho i’d recommend “oldboy” before this one, hehe ;)
  • ghost in the shell: 2nd GIG ~ began disc #3… still maintaining the high level of socio-political and cyber-cultural complexities!!!… still FIVE STARS!!!
  • oh my goddess! ~ this is the 1993 original 5-episode series… a wholesome and innocent and teenaged anime that reaches its best in the concluding episode, FOUR STARS!!!… the 2000 movie which comes later in the story timeline was FIVE STARS!… can’t wait to see the new 2005 anime series which expands upon the earlier works! ;)))

post 326 ~ keeping an eye…

post 326 ~ well, for those who don’t know, my left eye has recovered back to normal… but still wearing my dark glasses at work, still wearing “my sunglasses at night”…

  • still watching tons of dvds… star wars episode III extras, “battlestar galactica” series, “dark angel” series, “gankutsuou: count of monte cristo” (5 stars), “in the realm of the senses” (3 stars), “all about lily chou-chou” (3 stars), “oh, my goddess!” (not seen enough to rate yet), etc…
  • yet it seems my LJ activity has become more and more infrequent… as a consequence of work of course, but not necessarily a bad thing… more and more colleagues are relying on my efforts, which is satisfying albeit draining… half my time planned for GE documentation, the other half planned for application user guides, and the THIRD half spent on urgent editing projects that drop into my lap… yup! ;)))
  • and all while keeping an eye on my eyes… not overworking them… on the screen, on the TV, on the highway… so i think i’ll take a little nap ;)

“So Close” (2002)		 post 322 ~ DVDs, towers, and penthouses…

  • portrait of little cosette (netflix) ~ WOW… ab-so-lute-ly breathtaking!!!

    for any fan of anime, this is a must!… for those who’ve seen the 30-minute “voices of a distant star“, this mystery/horror anime recalls the same indescribably sublime style of moment-to-moment imagery… for those who’ve seen the schizophrenic mystery/sci-fi series “rahxephon“, this anime recalls the same epic psychological clashes… and for those who’ve heard the piercingly haunting music of yuki kajiura (at times rivaling even surpassing the talents of yoko kanno!) from the series “noir“, this anime takes her music further into the shadowy depths of tragedy and mystery… incredible piece of animated art, hypnotizingly heart-stopping… despite only 4 of 5 stars for its three-episode brevity, the DVD and CD soundtrack are already on my WISH LIST! haha! ;)))

  • ghost in the shell ~ yet another amazing piece of anime… finally finished “gits: sac 2nd GIG” disc TWO!… ah, the cyberpunk socio-political intrigue gets even more intense!… can’t wait for disc THREE in a few weeks!
  • so close (netflix) ~ watched the asian/hong-kong film “so close” over the weekend… STYLISH ACTION that easily surpasses “charlie’s angels” in its sleek sexiness, and its convincingly portrayed martial arts… Qu Shi looks like an asian Angelina Jolie, while Karen Mok looks like an asian (aka digital_sushi)… 4 of 5 stars!… ALSO on my wish list! ;)
  • dvd tower ~ yup, with all the DVDs we’ve been getting, we bought our 5th DVD tower over the weekend… not counting bonus/extra discs, but yes, including series discs in a season, we’ve exceeded 400 DVDs!!!… DAMN!
  • penthouse ~ last but not least, our “penthouse” issue arrived in the mail… it’s been about 10 years since our last issues… hmmm, has “penthouse” gotten more conservative in its photoshoots?… i’ll confirm next month, hahaha ;)

    update ~ a-ha! i figured out why nowadays “penthouse” seems tamer in print… they advertise their webpages with “hotter” versions of the magazine shoots… yeah, makes sense… :)

post 320 ~ cruzin’, crusadin’, and screechin’…

post 320 ~ nice to start 2006 with former colleagues… emails from a friend from college (dawn), from an old previous job (nancy), and from a recent previous job (vanessa)…

  • cruzin’ ~ got my new 1 GB cruzer flash drive in the mail… sending out the $20 rebate tomorrow, hehe ;)))… ready for my laptop…
  • crusadin’ ~ finished the “chrono crusade” anime series… such a powerful and emotional ending… sad to say goodbye to these memorable characters…

post 319 ~ thanx everyone for your best wishes regarding my gran’ma and myself… i appreciate it… and now for some news…

  • LJ ~ updated the look of my LJ to match the look of my website :)
  • DVDs ~ received the “chrono crusade” collection in the mail!… resumed at about episodes 17 thru 19, when i last watched via netflix… ah, getting good! ;D… meanwhile, finished my netflix of “24” season 2 disc 4… likewise getting good! ;D… and also resumed my “dark angel” season 2 exercising… still tons to go, including “gits:sac 2nd GIG” disc 2 still unfinished…
  • PC ~ a-ha!… after years of dreaming, and considering others before myself… after grandma passed on, and work piled on… i started 2006 by FINALLY treating myself with my first notebook/laptop (to match jen-shaka’s, hehe)… quickly qualified for a 12-month no-interest credit card, and clicked “submit” (ah, that feeling of power!)… only about $100/month for the next 12 months, not bad!!! ;)))
  • HW ~ yeah, homework… i brought home the 150-page training doc that needs revisions by jan 6th… unfortunately, there’s another doc i’ll be starting on the 3rd, due the 4th, argh… so i SHOULD do some work before the new year’s break ends… but still, i need all the holidays i can get to rest and relax… ah well, we’ll see… update ~ was able to start with 2 hours of reformatting… not too bad…

“dark angel: s2” (2001)		 post 316 ~ ah, very relaxing monday after christmas! ;)))… after saturday and sunday nights with jen-shaka and the in-laws, nice to have a free day by myself while they spend a night on the vegas strip… nice before i return to work tomorrow…

  • christmas ~ received tons of DVDs!… “the last samurai” (full-screen, but oh well, it’s a gift, right?), “dark angel” season 2 boxset (unexpected!), and “ghost in the shell: sac 2nd GIG” disc 2! nice!!! :)… already watched the 2nd “dark angel” episode tonight :)))
  • ordering ~ used my $50 “robert’s anime” certificate from my brothers in new york to acquire the “mezzo” 3-DVD boxset and “shinkai” 2-DVD collection… plus used another $25 amazon certificate towards the “chrono crusade” 7-DVD thinpak collection!… oh yeah! tons of anime and no time to watch them of course, hehehe ;)))
  • free time ~ meanwhile, spent some decent time updating my xjaymanx.com website… and later tonight, also updated anoucksdream.com… two of the best sites i’ve either designed or co-designed ;D
  • damn! ~ already 11:30pm?!?!?… crap, gotta get ready for bed… and a new work week…

post 313 ~ the elite…

“battlestar galactica: s1” (2004)		 post 313 ~ damn, already FIVE WEEKS have flown by, as the new technical writer/editor at TRIRIGA, #335 in the “Software 500” list!

  • finished SEVEN training documents for GE, with one week before the Christmas deadline, and guess what?… GE decides to change its mind and totally change the training focus from multiple “role-based” docs to a single “process-based” doc… oh happy happy! ;)
  • meanwhile, following GE, i have another project due January 6th… teaming with a colleague to totally revise a 150-page document from TRIRIGA version 8.4 to 9.0… totally new screenshots, terminology, and procedures!… oh joy joy! ;)))
  • on top of that, there are two more colleagues with two more similar documents in mid-January and again in February… so the bigger responsibility given to me as document “editor” and “gatekeeper” is to make sure all these documents maintain consistent styles and voices… regardless of the project manager or solution builder or application architect or software trainer making the revisions…
  • yet despite the flowing workload, it was definitely the BEST DECISION to join this company!… the “USS Enterprise” of software companies… “the elite of the elite”… i don’t feel boringly under-challenged at all… in fact, this is probably the most suitably (yet not crazily) challenging and satisfying position i’ve held in years… ;)))
  • battlestar galactica! ~ lastly, just watched episode 2 of season 1!… awesome! damn, this is good!… FIVE STARS so far ;)))… reminds me of the other great sci-fi i miss: “firefly” and “dark angel” even “voyager” and “DS9″…

as he scrambled

sparkled and shifted

i’m annoyed

after tearing my room apart
putting it back together
doing all the laundry
and rearranging the other room
i still can’t find my damn pants

but i find it really annoying
because i had them just the other day
i found the shirt but no pants
i can’t even blame it on anyone stealing them

but i’ve decided
i’ll delay my nap
head up to the mall
and get some more

because as we all know
the best way to find something
is to buy a brand new one
but so much for the mall stores
actually being open
