post 362 ~ weekend of change!

  • FINALLY figured a way to remove the cabinets (after weeks, suddenly got the idea to move them to the kitchen!), so i could reconfigure my desk and floor-bed, and expand some room for my anime-figure collection!… and as u can see, pretty nice results! ;)
  • in addition, helped jen reorganize her bedroom (damn, that four-post bed is heavy!), to expand more room too… ultimately, pretty nice change in both cases!
  • meanwhile, during my workouts, i’ve been watching my “star trek fan collective: BORG” dvds… and the voyager episodes from a decade ago are still pretty damn good, especially with the introduction of the incomparable “seven of nine”… resistance is futile! ;)

  • LasVegasOtaku.org (LVO)…

    Starting this July, LVO with help from AnimeVegas, we’re starting a series of screenings at the Whitney Library aimed at late teens and young adults. We’re going to be showing a variety of programming that is aimed at more mature viewers including more mature anime series, live action dramas, movies and more!

    Here’s the catch for the show: Due to the content we are showing, you have to be at least 16 yrs old (w/ID) to come to the screenings. Okay, in an effort to squeak in as much content as possible, the new showtimes are officially 11am-5pm, every 3rd Saturday each month. That means showdates are: July 15, Aug 19, Sept 16, Oct 21, Nov 18, Dec 16.

    The DARN NEAR FINAL schedule for the first show is: Paradise Kiss, Elfen Lied, Densha Otoko (live action), Sexy Commando, Kamen Rider (live action), Honey & Clover, Monster, Momoiro Sisters and we finish up with a movie each month. This month’s movie is the Cutey Honey Live Action Movie.

    We have a break built into the time, so people can get some lunch, or go have a smoke or whatever they need to do, in which we will use the time to schedule the LVO show, which could range from performances to cosplay exhibitions, trivia contests or just some totally random programming. It should be a very good first showing, so I hope you guys encourage friends and family to come out and join us as well! See you guys at the Whitney library in July!

  • mai tokiho ~ orange-haired lead character from the action/dramedy “My HiME” (HiME = Highly-advanced Materializing Equipment)… one of my current faves! ;)))
  • kaname chidori ~ blue-haired lead female from the action/dramedy “Full Metal Panic!”… now in its third season, another fave! ;)))
  • rin tohsaka ~ she deserves another mention… black-haired supporting female from “Fate/Stay Night” ;)
  • thoughts ~ i wonder if i’m growing attached to figures not only for their form, but b/c unlike dvds or files which can be copied and downloaded freely, figures can’t be electronically duplicated, and so once their production has stopped, that’s it… they can only go up in value… reminds me of the cyber-philosophies of “ghost in the shell: stand alone complex”; where the world has grown so electronically interconnected and information ebbs and flows and evolves so freely, that “external mnemonic devices” like motoko’s wristwatch and the laughing man’s books become more precious as simple material objects that don’t change… serving as anchoring reminders of one’s individuality…

WOW! ~ Still incredible… the second half of the 24-episode series is starting to get dark now… jealousy and heartbreaks are intensifying… and the supernatural danger is looming even closer than ever!… reminds me of “kiddy grade”; i love how a series starts cute and sexy and funny, but then gradually shifts to the darker, more mysterious, more serious paths… NOTE: yuki kajiura’s music is the best since “petite cosette”!

NETFLIX – ANIME:

++ Please Teacher! – Thru Ep. 4. Not bad so far! ~ Crazy antics which remind me of “chobits”, “midori days”, “dears”, and “ah! my goddess”… ALL of them focus on the regular college or high school guy who meets and is somehow paired up with a beautiful girl or woman, whether she’s a cute android, cute girl-as-right-hand replacement, sexy alien classmate, goddess companion from “heaven”, or in this case, a voluptuous alien school teacher! LOL ;)

As the specter of a robotic society looms, it’s about time that someone start thinking about some rules to keep things from getting out of control. The Japanese government has apparently been thinking along these lines, according to this LiveScience.com article, which reports that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is drafting “safety guidelines for next-generation robots.”

  • hehe, my new favorite asian actress (well, half asian, half russian-american… mmm)… FUNNY how she just happens to link both the “kamikaze girls” film (from netflix) i just finished, AND the “NANA” anime episodes i just downloaded in the last couple days!… and her music video in the “kamikaze” DVD extras ain’t half bad ;)))
  • FOUR STARS (out of five) for the “kamikaze” film!!!… vivid and eye-popping in the style of baz luhrmann (moulin rouge) and tarantino (kill bill) and amelie!… and so far, after just three episodes, the just-as-stylish “NANA” anime earns FIVE STARS, as long as the humor and conflict and compassion, and the heart-warming and heart-breaking memories continue! ;)))
  • update ~ a-ha!… since i couldn’t take screenshots of my “NANA” downloads, i finally found it!… after years, i finally found it… a way to take screenshots in that pesky Windows Media Player!
    • How do I capture a screenshot of a movie?
    • For Windows Media Player, you have to disable Hardware Acceleration. You can do this in Windows Media Player 6.4 and later by clicking on View -> Options and moving the Hardware Acceleration slider to None. You can do this in Windows Media Player 7-10 by clicking on Tools > Options, going to the Performance tab, moving the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and restarting Windows Media Player. Now you may make take a screenshot by pressing the [ALT + PRNTSCRN] combination. You can paste this screenshot into any graphics editing program (e.g. MS Paintbrush) and save the file. When you are done taking screenshots, you should move the Hardware Acceleration slider back to Full because this makes videos play smoother and look better.

“genshiken” (2005)		 post 352 ~ anime marathon over the weekend… well, pretty close to one, hehe…

  • genshiken ~ short but sweet!… finished the 12-ep first season… ah, the hilarious college antics of an animated-porn-loving “otaku” club… in addition to the anime, spent about 2-3 hours reading the manga versions at the “borders” and “barnes & noble” bookstores; so the anime was quite faithful to the story and style of the manga!… even pre-ordered a figure; coming in a few months!
  • fate stay night ~ watched the latest fan-subbed episode #20 in the fantasy anime series… a lighter episode exploring the humor, but also the deeper emotions/thoughts of the main characters “emiya” and “saber” and their future if/when they obtain the “holy grail”…
  • blood+ ~ AMAZING 1st episode of the anime series, based on the classic 20-30-minute film “blood: the last vampire”… presentation is quite faithful to the original feature… very slick, stylish, and bloody! ;)))
  • trinity blood ~ another AMAZING 1st episode… brand new series!… similar to “hellsing” in its battle between vampires and the vatican, but taken centuries into the future… a presentation similar to “vampire hunter D: bloodlust”… again, very stylish, gothic and grandiose!… and bloody, of course! ;)))
  • kiddy grade ~ during my workouts, continued watching this “teenaged eye-candy cyborg” series yet again (maybe the fifth time over the past few years? lol)… finished the 4th of 8 dvds… still an unexpectedly complex story of tragic pasts and hidden agendas…
  • ghost in the shell: stand alone complex ~ during my meals, watched this “anti-terrorist cyberpunk” series yet again (maybe the fifth time also?)… and finished the 7th/last dvd today… yeah-yeah, still a highly intellectually and philosophically engaging action series…
  • anime insider & newtype usa ~ last but not least, catching up on my magazines and free dvd samples… haha, when i’m NOT watching anime or reading manga… or when i’m NOT (dare i say it?) working… ;)))
  • whew!… that’s definitely a LOT of anime over the weekend plus today…

  • yesterday, may 17 ~ exchanged emails with loan officers as we put together the new mortgage loan… the house appraiser called; we arranged the appointment for the next day… therefore, i did a bit of house cleaning… vacuuming, dishes, dusting/arranging the book shelves, even pulling out a tons of weeds from the gravelled backyard “lawn”…
  • thursday, may 18 ~ the appraiser did his job… also received the loan package via UPS… later, signing, scanning, emailing, and finally dropping the necessary documents back into the mailbox… so it looks like most of the work on my end has been completed… which is a relief…
  • battlestar finale! ~ ah, last night, finally finished watching my “battlestar galactica: season 2” downloads!… unexpected, amazing, addicting!… next to watch is the new “doctor who” and some more anime, of course!… “ah! my goddess”, “genshiken”, and DVD previews from my “newtype” magazine ;)))
  • breakdown ~ but despite everything… whenever my WinAMP plays a random MP3 of my wife singing, especially when singing tori amos tunes, i have to catch myself… from slipping into the emptiness again… after all, tori’s music is how we first met as pen-pals…

  • tuesday, may 9 ~ finally bought the $50 divorce-forms kit for us to look over… only $400 more for convenient third-party preparation and court-related fees…
  • wednesday, may 10 ~ got confirmation that my 1800flowers.com order arrived at my mom’s house on the east coast… yep, early to get the 20% discount ;)))… then later that morning, while jen was asleep, her mom came over to pick up some stuff for the store, and when i asked her “how are you doing?”, she suddenly broke down in tears… sad to see a mom cry like that… but she has to keep a strong face for her daughter; can’t force someone to stay if she wants to leave…
  • friday, may 12 ~ this morning, called our bank to start the process of refinancing our home… cashing out jen’s share of the home equity, resulting in a near-doubled but manageable $1400/month payment… the transaction should close in about a month…
  • distractions! ~ otherwise, i’ve been distracting myself with TONS of DVDs and MP3s… including the anime “eureka seven” and “fate stay night”… the japanese sci-fi film “returner”… the gorgeous “memoirs of a geisha” (halfway thru the DVD)… PLUS music from the “fate stay night” anime OST, “ah! my goddess” anime OST, and “damo” TV OST…

    AS WELL AS the amazing return of QUEENSRYCHE’s “Operation: Mindcrime II”… i only downloaded it about 2 weeks ago, and i’ve already listened to it about a DOZEN TIMES!!!… consequently, i’ve re-listened to their original 1988 “Operation: Mindcrime”, as well as their “Operation: LIVEcrime” CD and DVD!!!… revolution!

  • attractions! ~ and pretty soon, i’ll be watching some pre-released episodes of “hellsing ultimate”, “eureka seven”, “blood+”, “trinity blood”, and “doctor who (2005)”… DAMN! lots to watch!

  • this week ~ it’s a calm week so far… working, reviewing, editing the latest tech manual on my plate… tedious but i get to do it from home ;)))… chatting with and … watching episodes of “fate stay night” during the day… and episodes of “damo” during my nightly workout…
  • tripping the rift ~ lol, about this dvd… i stumbled upon this canadian series by chance last week, while visiting “best buy” to get some new CD/DVD sleeves… so after getting it via netflix yesterday, i must admit, definitely eye-poppingly “R” rated… just think of “southpark” and “futurama” smashed together into a 3D/CGI universe… even funnier is that the sexy cyborg character “six” is voiced by gina gershon! cool, huh? LOL ;)… i’m giving 4 of 5 stars b/c some of the blood-and-guts violence is a bit too much, but still something to check out! ;)))
  • t.A.T.u. ~ now, thanx to and her posted collection of musical tastes, i was reminded of the russian duo “tatu” ;)… yeah-yeah, i know i’m a few years late, but then again, i didn’t have limewire until this february… so i finally downloaded 15 of their tracks, haha!… and guess what?… as trance artists, i’m surprised i like ’em better than “kirsty hawkshaw” and “conjure one” and “sia”… yup, they’re actually good!… hence, i’ve added their dvd to my netflix queue, why not? ;)))

  • 5 days ~ returned to the office after 5 days either sick at home or working from home… while our first-floor “dungeon” is like a prison cell where all u can focus is on work, it’s like a prison cell in its spartan and claustrophobic nature… STILL don’t understand the original need to move the 3 of us downstairs away from the 3rd floor… but i guess i’m lucky to work at home at all ;)))
  • 24 hours ~ finally finished “24” season 2 over the weekend… it rocked! better than season 1!… and while it’s a show definitely designed “for the ride”, i doubt i’ll ever buy the DVDs… that’s what “battlestar galactica” is for! LOL ;)
  • 50 weeks ~ funny, finally returned to watching the hit korean show “damo” again (ordered the DVD set last month!)… and according to my gmail, it’s been almost a YEAR (50 weeks) since i last saw it as a rental… never finished the series, which is why i bought it when it finally hit amazon!… and FEELS like it’s only been a month, not a year!
  • 3 “fate” figures ~ lastly, yup! i caved!… after ordering the first “black saber” figurine from http://www.animenation.com … yesterday, ordered TWO more “saber” figurines from http://www.yesasia.com … averaging only $50 per 7.5-inch figurine! nice ;)

  • meanwhile, work’s been so-so… same technical editing in the first-floor “dungeon” or from home… plus researching for some communication-skills training videos/dvds for our professional/customer service depts (yeah-yeah, sure sounds like HR work, don’t it? lol)… but since we don’t have an HR “department” at the moment… argh ;)
  • otherwise, been spending time watching dvds (what else?)… finished the BSG 2.0 episode “pegasus”… amazing, so far season 2 has been great; haven’t really noticed a sizable drop in action/drama… and also finished “gankutsuou” disc 3 (amazing!) and “full metal panic: fumoffu” disc 1 (hilarious!)… and when these netflix discs are returned, i’ve continued working out with “babylon 5” season 4… yeah-yeah, okay, no laughing please ;)
  • if not dvds, then i’ve been downloading MP3s, emailing, chatting, and working on another photo/photoshop remix for , well, actually, for her sister… lots of details to clean-up before the actual “remix” can start… we’ll see how much i can do over the weekend…
