post 395 ~ well, monday morning, i got an email from the LasVegasOtaku.org forum/admin (ganguro) that myself and one other guy (sirhc) were chosen and welcomed as the newest staff writers for the fan-organized Subarashii blog/zine… apparently, the editor (rukia) liked our sample reviews and forum behavior (not bad!)… now all i gotta do is keep up my anime figure reviews (my choice) of at least 1-2 times per week (not my choice)… and besides the blog, there are future plans to print (or photocopy, lol) actual bi-monthly zines… hey, why not?… below was my sample, as well as my first submission to the blog/zine…

If you think your anime figure collection is complete without this sword-wielding warrior, think again!

Sculpted by Takeshi Miyagawa and manufactured by Clayz, this 1/6-scale PVC figure is a glorious rendition of Saber, one of the primary characters of Fate/Stay Night, the title of the fantasy-action anime series, as well as the original H-game by TYPE-MOON upon which the anime is based.

With her long flowing blue skirt and white petticoat spanning horizontally over 6-inches to the tips, Saber stands proudly at nearly 10-inches tall, and is noticeably heavier than most figures of the same scale. But the weight does nothing to detract from the overall appearance, which is effortlessly detailed with Saber’s signature blonde curl, wide green eyes, blue hair ribbon, and trusty Excalibur sword. Even the touches of her armored footwear and the gold trim on her deep-blue dress doesn’t go unnoticed. Meanwhile, Saber carries herself in a relaxed yet poised and proud pose, as if to calmly say, “What are you waiting for?”

If anything detracts from the package, it is the scabbard (not pictured) which fits over the sword. While just as finely detailed in blue and gold, it may be somewhat superfluous for some who prefer to display the sword itself. Nevertheless, at a price between $50-60, this figure is definitely worth it.

That is, if you can still find it, and it’s not already sold out in your area!

  • saya & hagi ~ ah yes!… in graceful 1/8-scale form, the lead characters of my all-time favorite vampire-anime series “blood+“… watched 1-48, just downloaded episode 49 of 52!… even more profound, dramatic, touching, and epic than “hellsing”… and that’s saying a lot! ;)))
  • saber, coming soon ~ two more boxes i haven’t opened yet… 1/6 saber from “fate/stay night” in white swimsuit… and 1/8 saber in black goth-loli dress…
  • in other news ~ finished my pen-and-paper letter to , just gotta mail it on monday… also, finished burning the “smallville” season 1 episodes for , just gotta write the pen-and-paper letter to go with it ;)))… plus reached episode 22 of “scrapped princess”, an epic medieval-and-magic tale of humanity being sealed in a matrix-like cage of illusion, and a favorite anime of , just 2 more episodes to go!

Misaki Ito		 post 392 ~ japanese beauty… just had to post about Misaki Ito… according to her wikipedia article, she is “considered a great beauty within Japan and has been the face of Shiseido Cosmetics since 2000″… and her bright smile kinda reminds me of chinese actress ziyi zhang…

  • densha otoko (train man) ~ i first saw her in the 2005 romantic comedy “densha otoko” about an anime otaku (geek) who defends a rich and beautiful woman (her) from a bully on the subway… funny and touching…
  • you’re under arrest ~ but then after downloading the 2002 live-action drama “you’re under arrest” based on the anime i’ve been praising and downloading… about two strong and beautiful police women, i immediately recognized her as one of those women!
  • must be fate, lol ;)

 post 390 ~ yup, under a restful sky!… get it? under a rest?… ah, forget it… ;)

  • you’re under arrest ~ after watching previews of this anime months ago and then more recently, i finally decided several weeks ago to download and watch it for myself… and after watching the first 34 of 52 episodes (just the 1st season, there’s a 2nd season plus more!), i was surprised how good it is!… even something from the 90s!…

    it’s about two japanese policewomen Miyuki and Natsumi, who have fun catching the bad guys, getting into trouble with each other, and enjoying their friends and vehicles, hehe… i’m already attached to these characters… this is what i’m aiming for in my own fiction!

    so if you like keichi’s love of motorized vehicles and the playful humor from the “oh my goddess!” and “ah my goddess!” manga/anime, this is the same creator/writer Kosuke Fujishima!… highly recommended 5 of 5 stars!… yup, i finally had to say it!!!

    in fact, i like YUA so much, i’ve downloaded season 2, the original manga, the artbook, and the original soundtracks!… and i’m still downloading the live-action series that followed, as well as the anime movie!… just by the quantity and quality of material, i can sense how popular these were, and still are, in japan!

  • random photos ~ also took a few photos to update my site or journals or something… or maybe just to have them… or maybe i felt good today after accidentally finding a solution to opening a corrupted Word DOC, and then completing that high-priority project in a couple hours… who knows? ;)

post 383 ~ 3rd saturday, back to the whitney library in vegas!… so after dropping off a package for , i somehow took an absent-minded turn down I-215 west (maybe b/c it’s my routine route to work)… so at 80 mph, i whipped back the opposite way on I-215 east, took the overpass curve to I-95 north, then tropicana and finally whitney… and this month, the anime screening had a pretty decent mix!

  • Solid State Society Trailer ~ Production I.G’s clappa! website now hosts a 2:48 second trailer for the upcoming Stand Alone Complex movie, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society.

    wow, this looks and sounds as awesome as the GitS: SAC series 1 and 2… not like the first 2 movies… can’t wait!

  • Negima 2 will be All-New ~ Negima series 2 begins Ocober 4 in Japan. The series will reportedly have a new story, rather than an further adaptation of Ken Akamatsu’s manga.

    woo-hoo!… less depression, and more negima! LOL ;)

  • damn, as a result of watching the heart-wrenching finale (episodes 23-26) to the anime “negima!”, classmates dealing with the death and love of a classmate, as well as sadly finishing another lovable anime… along with lisa’s wedding reception… i naturally yet still unexpectedly began to feel a little depressed…

    and it ALWAYS feels like mental molasses or an energy-draining fog trying to pull myself out of it… forcing a grocery-buying smile or allowing myself to sing along with the radio’s tune…

    but this time, i’m trying to channel myself into writing some sci-fi, based on my original characters from my “matrix” and “firefly” fanfics… into creating my own anime-style universe, finally… still hammering out the back stories and ship design… so yeah, it’s gonna take months to write and develop and write some more, perhaps longer… for even a short story…

    but here’s my initial passage from last month…

  • “Yeee-hawww!”

    With her characteristic battle cry, the 26-year-old “Lucky” Yoshikawa floored her aluminum-framed sand buggy and soared through the air over the sunlit sand dunes. KER-THUNK! The big-wheeled buggy landed bouncily as the wind swept more sand across her dusty mirrored goggles and whipped her black red-streaked pigtails. Through the exhilaration, she grunted in her unheard British accent, “Ouch.”

    Rumbling right behind her, another buggy roared through the air. And landed. KER-CLANK!

    “Ergh!” grunted the 19-year-old “Pegasus” Mandara, as he fought to regain control of his just-as-big-wheeled vehicle, fought to readjust the baseball cap that barely clung to his pale close-cropped scalp, and fought to keep his blue-goggled blue eyes focused ahead on the target’s flapping red flag.

    “Come on! Whattaya doing?” barked the big black 6-foot-6-inch “Hitchhiker” Osbourne above the rushing wind and their own flapping blue flag. “Yer gonna lose her!”

    Pegasus barked back to his orange-capped passenger. “No freakin’ way!”

    Like a silver-ribbed demon, the red-flagged buggy zigged and zagged and leapt and bounced across dune after dune, spewing a cloudy wall of sand and dust behind her.

    “Damn,” spat Hitch. “I hate it when she gets this way!”

    “Hahaha! When ain’t she this way?”

post 367 ~ the whitney library in vegas… so yesterday/saturday, july 15th, despite some technical problems, the anime screening was pretty cool!… the library has a pretty big theatre (or concert hall), so we watched a bunch of anime and japanese live-action on the BIG SCREEN!… and there were maybe about 20-30 people (mostly college geek guys and girls) in the entire theatre… hmmm, so we watched:

  • 4 episodes of “elfen lied” (anime with extreme violence and some nudity)
  • (there was a lunch break/intermission, some j-pop playing)
  • 1 episode of “kamen rider” (live-action/non-anime kinda like “power rangers”)
  • 1 episode of “honey & clover” (anime about funny college life)
  • 1 episode of “densha otoko (train man)” (live-action/non-anime about an anime geek who gets together with a beautiful rich girl, after protecting her on a city train)
  • and lastly, “zatoichi” (live-action/non-anime film about an old blind samurai wanderer)

so, a total of about 6 hours!… except for “elfen lied”, i got to see stuff i hadn’t seen before, and it’s been a while since i went to any kind of theatre ;)… looks like i’ll be there next month, august 19th ;)))

post 366 ~ taking things less seriously

writing a “less serious” letter!		 post 366 ~ taking things less seriously… wednesday, july 12th…

  • new projects! ~ well, got a new work project to review/update/edit 3 tech manuals ASAP (but sometime before august)… hmmm, ASAP? no real deadline?… yup! so basically, doing as much as i can in 40 hours per week… no reason to kill myself if no deadline is set, right? ;)
  • work stress! ~ meanwhile, one of my good friends “nessa” is pretty stressed… after going thru a recent divorce with a son, and being the ONLY admin assistant for a growing company (the last job i resigned from), PLUS dealing with school, programming class no less… so it’s difficult to offer any of my own thoughts… except perhaps to “take work less seriously”; work isn’t everything, especially since she’s decided to focus on school… and if management is over-tasking you, or under-estimating the tasks they’re giving, there’s no reason to kill yourself 10 or 20 hours beyond a solid 40 hours per week, especially for the same pay…
  • people stress! ~ similarly, another good friend “morgaine” has finally decided to stop taking bullshit from everyone… a bold if not bitter path, but one i think she must follow and see where it leads… and yet again, my own perspective is not to “take people so seriously”… sure, “little people with little minds” can be frustrating as hell, but why worry about them?… oh yeah, lol, reminds me; for example, years ago, if some driver cut me off, i used to get annoyed… but nowadays, if it’s a “skillful” cut i might’ve done myself, i’ll actually say “WOW! COOL MOVE!”… hahaha, better to smile/laugh over spilled milk, eh?
  • sign please! ~ hmmm, i wonder if this “less serious” approach has actually helped me deal with my own issues and situations… including the most peaceful “break up” in history (LOL) between jen and me!… note, the official notarized signing of the divorce papers has been pushed to friday morning due to a sisterly obligation, driving her sister to the airport (to get married in europe)…
  • please twins! ~ after watching the 4th episode of the teen-comedy anime “please twins” (sequel to “please teacher”), i finally recognized the voice of crispin freeman (a.k.a. “alucard” of hellsing!)… but this time, i just barely recognized him through the proudly-gay pretty-boy high-school character he played, hahaha!… definitely different from his super-vampire “alucard”! no wonder it took a while!!!
  • anime countdown! ~ just 3 more days till saturday’s 6-hour anime screening at whitney library, las vegas!… should bring a lunch, huh… meanwhile, here are my latest anime-watching updates for a dozen simultaneous anime series!… ah, the obsession! ;))

  • FINALLY figured a way to remove the cabinets (after weeks, suddenly got the idea to move them to the kitchen!), so i could reconfigure my desk and floor-bed, and expand some room for my anime-figure collection!… and as u can see, pretty nice results! ;)
  • in addition, helped jen reorganize her bedroom (damn, that four-post bed is heavy!), to expand more room too… ultimately, pretty nice change in both cases!
  • meanwhile, during my workouts, i’ve been watching my “star trek fan collective: BORG” dvds… and the voyager episodes from a decade ago are still pretty damn good, especially with the introduction of the incomparable “seven of nine”… resistance is futile! ;)

post 361 ~ anime antics! (aug 09, 2006 ~ moved post)

  • LasVegasOtaku.org (LVO)…

    Starting this July, LVO with help from AnimeVegas, we’re starting a series of screenings at the Whitney Library aimed at late teens and young adults. We’re going to be showing a variety of programming that is aimed at more mature viewers including more mature anime series, live action dramas, movies and more!

    Here’s the catch for the show: Due to the content we are showing, you have to be at least 16 yrs old (w/ID) to come to the screenings. Okay, in an effort to squeak in as much content as possible, the new showtimes are officially 11am-5pm, every 3rd Saturday each month. That means showdates are: July 15, Aug 19, Sept 16, Oct 21, Nov 18, Dec 16.

    The DARN NEAR FINAL schedule for the first show is: Paradise Kiss, Elfen Lied, Densha Otoko (live action), Sexy Commando, Kamen Rider (live action), Honey & Clover, Monster, Momoiro Sisters and we finish up with a movie each month. This month’s movie is the Cutey Honey Live Action Movie.

    We have a break built into the time, so people can get some lunch, or go have a smoke or whatever they need to do, in which we will use the time to schedule the LVO show, which could range from performances to cosplay exhibitions, trivia contests or just some totally random programming. It should be a very good first showing, so I hope you guys encourage friends and family to come out and join us as well! See you guys at the Whitney library in July!

WOW! ~ Still incredible… the second half of the 24-episode series is starting to get dark now… jealousy and heartbreaks are intensifying… and the supernatural danger is looming even closer than ever!… reminds me of “kiddy grade”; i love how a series starts cute and sexy and funny, but then gradually shifts to the darker, more mysterious, more serious paths… NOTE: yuki kajiura’s music is the best since “petite cosette”!

NETFLIX – ANIME:

++ Please Teacher! – Thru Ep. 4. Not bad so far! ~ Crazy antics which remind me of “chobits”, “midori days”, “dears”, and “ah! my goddess”… ALL of them focus on the regular college or high school guy who meets and is somehow paired up with a beautiful girl or woman, whether she’s a cute android, cute girl-as-right-hand replacement, sexy alien classmate, goddess companion from “heaven”, or in this case, a voluptuous alien school teacher! LOL ;)

post 352 ~ anime marathon…

“genshiken” (2005)		 post 352 ~ anime marathon over the weekend… well, pretty close to one, hehe…

  • genshiken ~ short but sweet!… finished the 12-ep first season… ah, the hilarious college antics of an animated-porn-loving “otaku” club… in addition to the anime, spent about 2-3 hours reading the manga versions at the “borders” and “barnes & noble” bookstores; so the anime was quite faithful to the story and style of the manga!… even pre-ordered a figure; coming in a few months!
  • fate stay night ~ watched the latest fan-subbed episode #20 in the fantasy anime series… a lighter episode exploring the humor, but also the deeper emotions/thoughts of the main characters “emiya” and “saber” and their future if/when they obtain the “holy grail”…
  • blood+ ~ AMAZING 1st episode of the anime series, based on the classic 20-30-minute film “blood: the last vampire”… presentation is quite faithful to the original feature… very slick, stylish, and bloody! ;)))
  • trinity blood ~ another AMAZING 1st episode… brand new series!… similar to “hellsing” in its battle between vampires and the vatican, but taken centuries into the future… a presentation similar to “vampire hunter D: bloodlust”… again, very stylish, gothic and grandiose!… and bloody, of course! ;)))
  • kiddy grade ~ during my workouts, continued watching this “teenaged eye-candy cyborg” series yet again (maybe the fifth time over the past few years? lol)… finished the 4th of 8 dvds… still an unexpectedly complex story of tragic pasts and hidden agendas…
  • ghost in the shell: stand alone complex ~ during my meals, watched this “anti-terrorist cyberpunk” series yet again (maybe the fifth time also?)… and finished the 7th/last dvd today… yeah-yeah, still a highly intellectually and philosophically engaging action series…
  • anime insider & newtype usa ~ last but not least, catching up on my magazines and free dvd samples… haha, when i’m NOT watching anime or reading manga… or when i’m NOT (dare i say it?) working… ;)))
  • whew!… that’s definitely a LOT of anime over the weekend plus today…

post 351 ~ a new figure!… joining “saber” from the anime “fate stay night” is… “galhound” from masamune shirow’s manga “intron depot”, the first figure that ever caught my eye, and wanted to get for years!!!… finally found one under $25!

update ~ ah, yes, “rin” also from “fate stay night” joins them as well…

post 341 ~ fate in numbers… congrats to the fastest friends to be safe from the “passover” cut-off, lol… (see “safe list” on previous post 340)… as for other news…

  • 5 days ~ returned to the office after 5 days either sick at home or working from home… while our first-floor “dungeon” is like a prison cell where all u can focus is on work, it’s like a prison cell in its spartan and claustrophobic nature… STILL don’t understand the original need to move the 3 of us downstairs away from the 3rd floor… but i guess i’m lucky to work at home at all ;)))
  • 24 hours ~ finally finished “24” season 2 over the weekend… it rocked! better than season 1!… and while it’s a show definitely designed “for the ride”, i doubt i’ll ever buy the DVDs… that’s what “battlestar galactica” is for! LOL ;)
  • 50 weeks ~ funny, finally returned to watching the hit korean show “damo” again (ordered the DVD set last month!)… and according to my gmail, it’s been almost a YEAR (50 weeks) since i last saw it as a rental… never finished the series, which is why i bought it when it finally hit amazon!… and FEELS like it’s only been a month, not a year!
  • 3 “fate” figures ~ lastly, yup! i caved!… after ordering the first “black saber” figurine from http://www.animenation.com … yesterday, ordered TWO more “saber” figurines from http://www.yesasia.com … averaging only $50 per 7.5-inch figurine! nice ;)

  • 14 “fate” episodes ~ meanwhile, i’ve downloaded the first 3 available chapters of the english-version “fate stay night” manga… and in the process of downloading the 14 available episodes (jap with eng subtitles) of the “fate stay night” anime so far, now playing in japan… completed 9 downloads so far!!!
