Blog 154 > Starting From Scratch

Yeah! After Puppy-Chun’s blog post triggered my long-time Amazon wish, I finally received my silver “Wacom Bamboo Fun” tablet on Thursday (21 Aug 2008), lol. Then with the artsy addition of Orange-Mimi’s blog post, I started playing around with the tablet on Friday. Unfortunately, my digital efforts were so pathetic, they weren’t even worth saving. T_T;

Hence, after years of using my trackball mouse, I finally came to the realization that *before* I could pursue experiments on the tablet, I needed to re-acquire at least *some* of my lost pencilling skills. So what did I do? I started from scratch. Doodling. Sketching. Practicing. With pen on paper. With a bit more focus than I’ve had in years. Not much, but a bit more. As u can see (at the bottom), I’ve got a long way to go…

So here are my three 10-minute doodles: (1) Annoyed Girl, (2) Bored Girl, and (3) Troubled Girl. One thing I picked up during my School of Architecture years, was the use of a pen to sketch. Because it forces u to focus (or unfocus) on every stroke u put down on paper, can’t erase, can’t cross out. So the result is raw and rough. But that’s okay, no plans to clean or color any of these doodles. Like I said, just doodling, sketching, practicing. Re-acquiring old habits, lost skills. Argh, long way back, long way to go.   1. First off, your ‘anti-spam’ security words always bring a smile to my face, I got Haruhi’s favourite target this time xD;

    Feels like I haven’t visited in months, you’ve posted quite a few entries, changed your blog location, picked up traditional sketching and started ‘de-constructing’ Danny, how do you fit it all in? Lol.

    I like your attempts at drawing, I was feeling rusty so I started sketching a bit last week… results = not as bad as I had feared =D.

    Oh and the unveiling of the tablet, way better than the opening of an ipod box, wacom~ *¬*

    What are the dimensions for the drawing area by the way? Are they adjustable? I bought an Aldi tablet a while back and liked that I could change the drawing area, but the pen needed a battery and I’d have to restart Photoshop sometimes >.<;;

    Sorry for the long post~ ^^;

  2. @Koshiko: Hahaha, thanx, just had to include “Asahina” in my list. And got all 3 of your comments, but I’m so swamped at the office, I’ll post better replies later. I will say this: My traditional pen-pencil skills are so rusty, I probably need a tetanus shot! >_<;

  3. @Koshiko: Sooo, how do I fit it all in? Easy, 4-5 hours of sleep, lol.

    Haha, yeah, the Bamboo Fun is packaged pretty nicely, almost *too* nice. I’m afraid I’ll scratch something! To answer your question, this tablet is the small version, with a drawing area slightly under 4×6 inches. Doesn’t seem to be adjustable, so probably *not* then. And lol, no pen battery from what I can see. ^_^
