THE NEWCOMER

[Path B2. Cyberreyn takes the ladder to the cockpit.]
Almost instinctively, Cyberreyn climbs slowly up the clanging ladder. She holds onto each rung a little tighter than she should, afraid to fall even a few feet, afraid to fall as she does in her nightmare. Shivering again, she shakes off the frightening image of the endlessly spinning cityscape flying towards her.
"Cy?" Cyberreyn looks up. It's Captain Kan-chiang, her liberator, mentor, and confidant.
"Yep, it's me... again," she answers. "That nightmare... again."
For a moment, she turns away from the view outside, speeding frighteningly towards her.
The captain smiles. "Don't worry," he adds with his slight Chinese accent, "the dreams usually fade."
"Usually?"
The captain laughs. "I like you. And I don't usually like newcomers the first few weeks." He presses a few lighted buttons on the control panel. "But we have a mission."
"Yes, I know, I know. Saving people, unplugging them, and whatever."
With a twinkle in his eye, the captain looks curiously at Cyberreyn. "Hmmm, maybe it's time for your next training session."
