THE NEWCOMER
Path B1 by John
[Chose Path B1 to go left to the Operator station]
As Cy walks into the Operator station, she sees Flicker's back to her. For some reason, this is the first time Cy realizes that there don't seem to be any plugs on his neck. His wooly black hair is short enough to reveal he doesn't have one.
"Flick?" Flick lurches a little at the sound of her voice and his hand jumps out to the monitors. But, he turns to see it is Cy. "Oh, hello Cy. Come on in." His hand comes away from the monitors without turning any off.
"Flick, can I ask you a personal question?"
"Whoa, that's right up there with 'promise you won't laugh' and 'don't tell anybody about this but...'." Seeing the confused almost hurt look on her face, Flicker feels badly enough to change gears. "Sorry Cy, go ahead."
"Well, um ... why don't you have a plug on the back of your neck."
"Oh yeah, I forget your don't know anything." He fails to notice the hurt look this time, rushing on to his next sentence. "You see, I was born in Zion."
"Really? Like two horny people did the 'nasty' and nine months later out you came?."
"Yeah, and they are my parents so I would really not like to think of it in that way. It would ruin my wet dreams of you if our entanglements turned into seeing my parents get it on."
"Flick!"
"Kidding, just kidding! Sort of, anyway, I've been tweaking a great Construct just for you."
"Really, I get my own Construct?"
"Of course! I don't know when your birthday is, so just consider that this is your present. I accidentally on purpose overheard a conversation you were having with Sky, so I did some research and did my best. Anyway, it IS safe, but you can tell me where I went wrong."
"Don't tell me you recreated Cape Cod."
"Well, I HOPE that is what it looks like. Wanna give it a try?"
"Sure! I also want to put in an IV."
"Cy, you'll have to get used to our food someday."
"I know, but does someday have to be today?"
"I guess not. So, what'll it be?"
