"Flick, enough of this crap, answer me now!"
Not only has the scene around her frozen, Nos is now flickering a bit.
She is about to try Flick one more time, when she notices Nos's mouth moving, but it looks strange. It is not smooth. It seems like pieces of Nos cut and pasted together.
"He-lo ...Ca-n an-ee bo-dee hee-ear muh-eee?"
The phone now drops from Cy's hand as her jaw falls open.
For reasons she cannot fathom, she decides to answer the voice.
"Yes, I can hear you."
"Guh-ud. Nah-aught mu-ch ti-um. Li-sun care-ful-lee."
"Yes, I can barely hear you."
"We need your help."
"That's better, who are you?"
"We are fellow revolutionaries, but we are inside The ...tr...."
"But how?"
"LISTEN, you pi---, we found a way to --"
"You're breaking up again."
"Cuh-um to-to-to-to to this region: naught-two-two-wo colon sixdotuh (bshhhhhh of static), colon naught-si-six colon-in-O-fi-fipoint twent --. That's the cor-ner of Verne and Wells. "Can you repeat that?"
But Nos just stands there, his mouth open wide one moment, the next it is closed and his eyes are different. It seems to be stuck in this loop.
Cy feels her heart fall towards her stomach while her guts seem to go into freefall. The world seems to stretch away from her, but then it snaps back.
"craft that you are now riding in. Pleased to meet you."
Cy does say a word. Nos seemed to have continued where he left off. The simulation also begins where it had stopped. Her phone is back in her hand and at her face. The way things have suddenly switched back to normal for reason scares her more than when they went all wiggy.
"Sorry, Cy; I did not mean to startle you."
"Cy, Nos doesn't scare you, does he?"
"Flicker, Nos; did you notice anything strange?"
"What do you mean?" they say in stereo.
"Flick, get me out of here. Now."
"Cy, I'm sorry, I don't" stammers both Nos and Flicker both in stereo again.
"NOW!!!!"
"OK" answers Flick as Nos has a slight pained look on his human digital form.
Soon Cy is opening her eyes just as the long thin metal needle is coming out of her skull.
"Cy, what happened? You look so white."
