OC OR NOT OC?

Webmaster's Note - While this is not technically an essay, I thought it would be
interesting to include this proposal, also found on "The Hardline" message boards. --Jay
Hi guys and gals...
• Idea - Months ago, back in June 2003, before I joined the Hardline
or even knew about the Construct, the Tribute, or other Matrix fanfic
sites, I had an idea to build a site for my own stories... and it became
the "Chronicles of the Nosferatu" (http://www.the-nos.com)... Matrix
stories based ONLY on original characters, even hovercrafts...
• Hate - But then I found somewhere that many readers
even writers "hate" OCs in Matrix fics... Why? I don't get that at all?...
After all, when "The Matrix" film first came out, Neo, Trinity, and
Morpheus were all OCs, right?
• Defend - So, as of today, I'm designating myself
"defender of the OCs and OC-only fics" -- fics without the need or
crutches of existing film characters such as Neo, Trinity, or Morpheus...
• Ode - So, as an ode to the OCs, I'm building a
list of original characters -- both humans and programs -- from all
stories, in defiance of the "matrix fanfic establishment" which seems to
avoid (or fear) OC-only fics...
• Rebel - I could be alone here :( but I hope a few
of you will join me in my "OC rebellion" :) ...
• Imagine - Imagine a universe where Khary's
"Charity" and Twig's "Loki" and Jay's "Million" somehow interact in an
OC-only epic! Imagine all of the OC crews on the Neb decades before
Morpheus was ever unplugged! The possibilities are endless!
• Submit - Nevertheless, whether you love them or
hate them, feel free to submit your OC names and descriptions (and OC-only
stories!) via "The Hardline" message boards, or via my email at:
jay_manaloto@yahoo.com ...

unplugged" | Description: "Commander, 30s, tall, slender, scarlet hair,
amber eyes, best fighter in the crew, known as Maxine de Mille before she
was unplugged" | Permission for others to use in fics: "Yes, email me to
ask"
Agent Greene - Origin: "Program" | Hovercraft:
"N/A" | Story: "The Sunset" by Jay | Timeline: "10 years before Neo is
unplugged" | Description: "Agent, green eyes, mirrored sunglasses,
deep voice" | Permission for others to use in fics: "Yes, email me to
ask"
• Finally - "Free your mind!"
