Free-born. Yeah, I'm a free-born citizen of Zion...
Name's Paige, by the way...
The Matrix? Yeah, I've heard of it, here, there, and everywhere... rumors from the young, and gossip from the old... but I can't tell you anything about it...
Can't plug in...
But I can tell you about the pod-borns, those unplugged from the Matrix... at least a little bit... They're our protectors, Zion's defenders and saviors and leaders and visionaries...
I once heard, I don't remember where... that until recently, about a dozen pod-borns were freed every year /now it's a dozen every month/... about a thousand pod-borns in the last hundred years... that's all... less than one percent of Zion's population...
Yet the pod-borns are the Elite...
The pod-born Elite...
My free-born parents seem to understand them, working with them at Zion Control... even joining the Fleet as Operators...
But I don't... I don't understand my parents risking their lives with them... fighting for them...
If so many billions of people are dreaming their lives fine in the Matrix, who's to say that their world is any worse than ours?
Let me guess... the Elite says so...

Maybe that's why Isabelle gets under my skin so much... Her dad was pod-born of course... and she always seems to carry a little hint of superiority in her scrawny little body... that bitch...
