\nis just a dream?”
\nshe asked me
\nas i pulled my sleeve
\nand turned to check my watch<\/p>\n

“what if you
\nare just playing
\na role in that dream?”
\nshe wondered aloud
\nand leaned towards the mirror<\/p>\n

“i don’t know”
\ni said softly yet hurriedly
\nto her long-haired silhouette<\/p>\n

“what if it’s not
\neven your own dream?
\nand death is simply waking up?”<\/p>\n

“i don’t know”
\ni repeated quickly
\nwith less time to spare
\nand less patience to share
\nas showtime loomed even closer<\/p>\n

then a flash hit me<\/p>\n

“so without
\nfree will, you wouldn’t
\nmind if we missed the concert?”<\/p>\n

she smiled widely
\nand then approvingly
