\nand cool autumn nights
\ni remember that calm july evening
\ni remember it the most<\/p>\n

the anniversary of our chance encounter
\nin the sci-fi section of the bookstore
\ndressed in my shirt and tie
\nfor a cheesy business card photo<\/p>\n

she approached from the fantasy section
\na question in her intense eyes
\nmy shocked breathing cut as short
\nas her cute delicate hair<\/p>\n

“do you work here?” she asked
\n“i wish i did” i shakily laughed
\ninsecure with my first impression
\nbut helped her find her novel<\/p>\n

this anniversary was our third
\na deserted july evening
\nwalking down our favorite hill
\nalong the narrow moonlit river<\/p>\n

the scent of vanilla in her hair
\nthe smell of combustion in the air
\nthe fireworks crackling as desperately
\nas the fears in my mind<\/p>\n

she handed me the book without a word
\nthe one i bought her those years ago
\n“the time traveler’s wife” it said
\nby someone named audrey<\/p>\n

i stayed on the hill as she left me behind
\nleft me unseeing unhearing unfeeling and falling
\nmy soul shred into as many pieces
\nas the wet pages at my feet<\/p>\n

i can’t forget her giggles
\nher figments and fashions and fragments<\/p>\n

i can’t forget her photos
\nher shadows and shapes and smiles<\/p>\n

i can’t forget that dark july evening
\na thousand miles from myself<\/p>\n

“do you work here?” she asked
